New Downtown Condos Coming to Historic Grand Rapids Building!

New Downtown Condos Coming to Historic Grand Rapids Building!

It’s official! The Olds Manor building located at 201 Michigan St NW will soon undergo an exciting conversion to a multi-use residential retail building called ‘The Rowe.’ Olds Manor, which is located just east of the Grand River next to the downtown post office, is downtown Grand Rapids’ last remaining major vacant building and has been owned by RDV Corp. since 2002, when it was purchased from Peter Secchia by Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel for $4.5 million. The building will undergo a complete restoration of its beautiful historic facade, along with the creation of an underground parking garage. When complete, The Rowe will feature dining and shopping venues on the ground floor, apartments on the third through ninth floors, and new condominiums on the upper two floors. The building originally served as a downtown Grand Rapids hotel in the 1920s through the 1960s. Construction on the new project is slated to begin in the Spring of 2015. Marketplace Makeover Coming to Grand Rapids this Summer!

Marketplace Makeover Coming to Grand Rapids this Summer!

Get ready, downtown Grand Rapids … city life is about to get a whole lot fresher! Picture this scene, if you will: You come home from work to your funky urban flat only to realize you don’t have any of the salad ingredients you need to make dinner. No worries – just stroll on over a block or two to the newly opened Grand Rapids Downtown Market, where farmer’s market vendors will be displaying fresh farm stand produce while a row of indoor marketplace vendors offer everything from artisan oils and vinegars to coffee and freshly popped kettle corn. Or maybe you need a bit of unwind time after a long day’s work – simply head on down for a stint at the spa that’s just below your condo unit. Don’t forget to indulge in a favorite cafe beverage while you’re out so you can enjoy some people watching! If you think you must be in Paris or Rome think again – you’re in the heart of Downtown Grand Rapids! And this scenario will be just another everyday perk for GR’s city residents as soon as this summer, when two major housing and retail development projects converge on the Heartside neighborhood with the aim of creating and sustaining a vibrantly diverse and upbeat atmosphere in an area of the city that has been overlooked for far too long. The first project, Tapestry Square, developed by Jonathon Bradford of the urban revitalization organization Inner City Christian Federation (ICCF), will be comprised of a 4-block mixed housing and retail space at the corner of Wealthy St and Division Ave S, with...

Markets and Grocery in Downtown Grand Rapids

Markets and Grocery in Downtown Grand Rapids

One of the biggest changes from living in a suburban home to a downtown condo is not having easy, quick access to your favorite large stores. Sure, you can get in your car and drive to the nearest Meijer, but isn’t it more fun to just walk down the street to your local market and pick up your small list of necessity items? Here is a list of local markets in the downtown area that can service you no matter which part of town you live in. Grand Central Market: Recently renovated and in the heart of downtown, this one is the most well known due to its location. Featuring homemade sandwiches and soups for lunch as well as standard market items. Fulton Street Farmers Market: One of the largest farmers market in town featuring local, fresh produce and products from area farms. This market is open year-round and is outdoors. It is getting a facelift though, and should be ready for Spring 2012. Franks Market: A family-owned meat market on the West side with lines out the door! Featuring specialty meats and standard market items. Lucky’s Downtown Market: Primarily a convenience/liquor store this market is expanding and now offers a larger selection of items and is conveniently located downtown. Martha’s Vineyard: A wine connoisseur’s palace! Featuring hundreds of wines, liquors and beers, this market is a must-see for those in the Heritage Hill area. Specialty sandwiches, cheeses, spreads and baked good are also available. Living downtown is all about accessibility so get out there and support your favorite local...

ArtPrize helping Grand Rapids Real Estate

ArtPrize helping Grand Rapids Real Estate

This post was originally written on the Steve Volkers Group website. There is an equilibrium with exposure and success.  If someone doesn’t hear about a product, how are they supposed to know that it even exists?  ArtPrize is helping Grand Rapids in more ways than current residence could possibly imagine. Not only are we becoming the cultural hub for West and Mid Michigan, we are reaching out to the entire world in hopes to pull attention into the city, and letting the globe know that we are a thriving municipality.  ArtPrize brings a lot of attention to what we have to offer, opening venues from simple mom and pop restaurants to huge commercially known venues like the DeVos Performance hall.  But what does that mean for you, how could it help you sell your home? Buyers hate thinking that their investments will be void or come up a loss in the years to come, and since Grand Rapids is hosting such great events, it’s unlikely that someone who actually visits the city will see a dilapidated area, and will notice what we have to offer.  We have great and affordable downtown condos that we offer for those who strive to be in the thriving culture that Grand Rapids has to offer.  Local theaters, restaurants, museums and night life offer those who look for adventure a taste of something new. ArtPrize brings attention to one of the most cultural rich cities in the midwest.  We are proud of our art community, our local artists and their talents.  We are participating with Chicago and New York as a gateway for creativity and artistic residence.  ArtPrize helps local artist get world wide exposure, helps teach them to be a...
