The Factory – Downtown Grand Rapids Co-Work

By SVG / April 2, 2017 / 0 Comments

A few years back, I spent some time with the fun people that work and enjoy life together at The Factory in downtown Grand Rapids. What a group! You might be wondering why I’m bringing this up now. I only spent about an hour at The Factory talking with three of their members. The purpose of that hour was to see the space and highlight it right here on the GR Downtown Condos blog. Initially, I thought I was helping them but, turns out, I was wrong! I ended up learning so much about co-working, collaboration and an all-out ‘cool’ work environment. During my tour at The Factory, I also was able to spend half of the time talking about a new marketing idea that one of the members had for his website: VNN. It was great to ask the Why? and How? questions of the marketing plan and pick his brain about how it was going to work. From this short, 30-minute conversation I came away with ideas and thoughts for our own team! New Downtown Condos Coming to Historic Grand Rapids Building!

By SVG / December 31, 2014 / 0 Comments

It’s official! The Olds Manor building located at 201 Michigan St NW will soon undergo an exciting conversion to a multi-use residential retail building called ‘The Rowe.’ Olds Manor, which is located just east of the Grand River next to the downtown post office, is downtown Grand Rapids’ last remaining major vacant building and has been owned by RDV Corp. since 2002, when it was purchased from Peter Secchia by Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel for $4.5 million. The building will undergo a complete restoration of its beautiful historic facade, along with the creation of an underground parking garage. When complete, The Rowe will feature dining and shopping venues on the ground floor, apartments on the third through ninth floors, and new condominiums on the upper two floors. The building originally served as a downtown Grand Rapids hotel in the 1920s through the 1960s. Construction on the new project is slated to begin in the Spring of 2015. This momentous milestone marks an exciting and fresh new chapter in the city of Grand Rapids’ downtown residential and retail expansion. Picture this scene, if you will: You come home from work to your funky urban flat only to realize you don’t have any of the salad ingredients you need to make dinner. No worries – just stroll on over a block or two to the newly opened Grand Rapids Downtown Market, where farmer’s market vendors will be displaying fresh farm stand produce while a row of indoor marketplace vendors offer everything from artisan oils and vinegars to coffee and freshly popped kettle corn. Helen Devos Children’s Hospital

By SVG / January 11, 2011 / 0 Comments

Today marks an exciting day for Downtown Grand Rapids! Helen Devos Children’s Hospital opens its door in a brand new, state of the art building. Helen Devos Children’s Hospital has been open for quite some time operating out of the Butterworth Spectrum Campus but now, it has it’s own home. This amazing building offers kids a place to grow, feel safe, and heal. For parents, it offers quiet space to gain strength through difficult times. There are also private restroom facilities and rooms to speak to the doctors and nurses taking care of their precious children. For our community, it offers a first-class hospital focused on making our futures better through the healing and helping of our next generations. My heart is overwhelmed with excitement for this opening as just over 2 years ago my life was changed forever with the blessing that is Helen Devos Children’s Hospital. With their skilled staff, my boys were given every chance to live and grow. Thank you Helen Devos Children’s Hospital for what you have done for my family and what you will continue to do for all the families in our community.
