The Factory – Downtown Grand Rapids Co-Work

By SVG / April 2, 2017 / 0 Comments

A few years back, I spent some time with the fun people that work and enjoy life together at The Factory in downtown Grand Rapids. What a group! You might be wondering why I’m bringing this up now. I only spent about an hour at The Factory talking with three of their members. The purpose of that hour was to see the space and highlight it right here on the GR Downtown Condos blog. Initially, I thought I was helping them but, turns out, I was wrong! I ended up learning so much about co-working, collaboration and an all-out ‘cool’ work environment. During my tour at The Factory, I also was able to spend half of the time talking about a new marketing idea that one of the members had for his website: VNN. It was great to ask the Why? and How? questions of the marketing plan and pick his brain about how it was going to work. From this short, 30-minute conversation I came away with ideas and thoughts for our own team! I walked into The Factory hoping to promote a cool space and ended up collaborating right along with them. That’s what true co-working is all about:…

New Downtown Condos Coming to Historic Grand Rapids Building!

By SVG / December 31, 2014 / 0 Comments

It’s official! The Olds Manor building located at 201 Michigan St NW will soon undergo an exciting conversion to a multi-use residential retail building called ‘The Rowe.’ Olds Manor, which is located just east of the Grand River next to the downtown post office, is downtown Grand Rapids’ last remaining major vacant building and has been owned by RDV Corp. since 2002, when it was purchased from Peter Secchia by Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel for $4.5 million. The building will undergo a complete restoration of its beautiful historic facade, along with the creation of an underground parking garage. When complete, The Rowe will feature dining and shopping venues on the ground floor, apartments on the third through ninth floors, and new condominiums on the upper two floors. The building originally served as a downtown Grand Rapids hotel in the 1920s through the 1960s. Construction on the new project is slated to begin in the Spring of 2015. This momentous milestone marks an exciting and fresh new chapter in the city of Grand Rapids’ downtown residential and retail expansion. Over 200 free parking spots! That’s right, an adjacent lot will have room for over 200 vehicles to park for no cost at all. If you want to take advantage of the convenience of the lot, you’ll want to get there early, though. For those who miss out, you can still get a close spot at the metered spaces available along Ionia. 2. 80 vendors offering up fresh West Michigan wares! B&B Farms, Crane Dance Farm, Fish Monger’s Wife, Great Harvest Bread Co., Klackle Orchards, Robinette’s Winery & Apple Haus, The Great American Bagel and Visser Farms are just a handful of names you’ll see when browsing the market. By SVG / March 25, 2013 / 0 Comments

Get ready, downtown Grand Rapids … city life is about to get a whole lot fresher! Picture this scene, if you will: You come home from work to your funky urban flat only to realize you don’t have any of the salad ingredients you need to make dinner. No worries – just stroll on over a block or two to the newly opened Grand Rapids Downtown Market, where farmer’s market vendors will be displaying fresh farm stand produce while a row of indoor marketplace vendors offer everything from artisan oils and vinegars to coffee and freshly popped kettle corn. Or maybe you need a bit of unwind time after a long day’s work – simply head on down for a stint at the spa that’s just below your condo unit. Don’t forget to indulge in a favorite cafe beverage while you’re out so you can enjoy some people watching! Downtown Condos in Renaissance Zones

By SVG / December 5, 2011 / 0 Comments

Often when touring buyers around Downtown Grand Rapids condos, they ask about those units in renaissance zones. There are few projects left with this status, however with new changes in the tax code there might be a change coming to even those remaining buildings. As you think about buying a condo, please make sure you take the time to understand each building. They are all so different and each have pros and cons associated with them. As we tour our clients through each of these projects, we hope to spend time with them to make sure they are making a wise decision with their financial future. Please don’t hesitate to call or email with any questions you might have about the renaissance zone, parking, amenities, or condo associations. This is what we love to do and will do our best to get you answers.

ArtPrize helping Grand Rapids Real Estate

By SVG / September 26, 2011 / 0 Comments

This post was originally written on the Steve Volkers Group website. There is an equilibrium with exposure and success.  If someone doesn’t hear about a product, how are they supposed to know that it even exists?  ArtPrize is helping Grand Rapids in more ways than current residence could possibly imagine. Not only are we becoming the cultural hub for West and Mid Michigan, we are reaching out to the entire world in hopes to pull attention into the city, and letting the globe know that we are a thriving municipality.  ArtPrize brings a lot of attention to what we have to offer, opening venues from simple mom and pop restaurants to huge commercially known venues like the DeVos Performance hall.  But what does that mean for you, how could it help you sell your home? Buyers hate thinking that their investments will be void or come up a loss in the years to come, and since Grand Rapids is hosting such great events, it’s unlikely that someone who actually visits the city will see a dilapidated area, and will notice what we have to offer.  We have great and affordable downtown condos that we offer for those who strive to be in the thriving culture that Grand Rapids has to offer.  Local theaters, restaurants, museums…
